Healthy Snacks Instead Of Junk Food Garbage

Do you put more money in the candy machine than the collection plate each week?

If you're like most people, you'd not even aware of how much money you're spending on junk food snacks every week of your life.

Want to try an interesting junk food experiment?

Keep a written log for one week and write down every penny you devote to non-meal foods. You'll be stunned after seven days to see how much of your hard-earned cash is paying for sugar-filled soft drinks, candy bars, potato and corn chips, and crap "food" that has little or no nutritional value.

If you want to snack, and most people do these days, give some thought to these healthy alternatives to junk food:

* Snack on organic raisins



* Snack on dates with an almond stuffed inside



* Snack on other dried fruits



* Snack on a walnut placed on top of a dried apricot

If you're watching your weight or if you're diabetic or have sugar-related health issues, include in your bag of healthy snacks some celery and carrot sticks and intermix bites of dried fruit with bites of veggie sticks.

Here's a healthy snack recipe that's not only great during the holidays but wonderful during the whole year...

Healthy Snack Peppermint Balls

1 cup pitted dates



1 cup raisins



1 cup raw almonds



2 cups rolled oats



1 cup shredded coconut



2 Tbs raw grated chocolate



2 tsp vanilla extract



1/2 tsp peppermint extract



2 Tbs raw honey

Put the raisins and dates in your food processor and blend into small pieces. Add the almonds, oats, coconut, and chocolate. Blend until the mixture resembles bread crumbs. Add the extracts and honey. Stop the machine and try rolling a small amount into a ball. If the mixture doesn't bind, add extra honey or some apple juice. Store in your refrigerator until they're all eaten, which won't take long.

With healthy snacks, you'll save money and feel a whole lot better than you'll feel if you continue to consume convention junk food.
